Instant Noodle SIG Meeting

First Tasting Session for Instant Noodles SIG

By Cecilia Yew, Chairman, Mensa Penang branch

Date: 26th July 2013
Time: 8pm
Venue: Chez Moi /my home

Tonight is the first tasting session for the newly formed Instant Noodles SIG (Special Interest Group). My family and I are very excited about it.

At about 7pm earlier, I was still preparing some chicken and potatoes for the samosa I was cooking. I had read about some samosa recipe in a magazine and it was my first attempt at making this snack.

Why samosa when it is going to be instant noodles tasting, one may wonder. Well, I was afraid that we may not get enough nutrition, just from instant noodles. Typical concern of the mother in me!

Time is almost 8pm. I asked BL to check who will be coming and I got to know that Jay is not feeling well and Hsiang Boon has other plans. Never mind, Nic and Krista are on their way.

“Unlock the gate for our guests please,” I asked BL. Off I go with Noel, to lay the table with food. We have samosa, zapple, roasted groundnuts, guava and fruitcake from UK, all nicely packed in the 60th Anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II box, courtesy of my neighbor.

“What would you like to have first, Nic?” I asked. Noel had brought home an assortment of flavours of instant noodles from Cheng Du – ma la beef noodles (numbingly spicy), dan dan noodles, chicken mushroom noodles and spicy pork rib noodles.

“Who’s cooking?” asked Krista. Mmm, I thought I am.

“Nic is a good cook,” she continued. Yes, then chef he shall be!

You want a big pot or a small one, I asked Nic. He says a big one is better, as he can cook more at one go.

Soon, bowls of hot yummy instant noodles are ready. I am famished, just by looking at the delicious steaming noodles!

Let’s EAT….
“Try at least a mouthful of each flavor.”

Which flavor to start first? The mild chicken mushroom? Or the fiery Sichuan noodles? Or the dry dan dan noodles? Or the spicy pork ribs noodles? This is what flashes in our mind, when there is so much choice in front of us.

“Maybe we should start with the mild one and then progress to the spicy ones,” said Krista.
And the feast begins….

We are not telling you guys how the noodles taste. If you are interested to know, do join us at our next tasting session. Be on the look-out for the date, time and place!
